Scientists develop a new method for improving assisted fertilization
Argentine scientists have developed a method that improves sperm samples used for assisted fertilization techniques, as confirmed today.
"The new methodology involves the selection of sperm for use in an assisted reproduction procedure," said biologist Vanesa Rawe Argentina in an interview with Efe.
Rawe, the Center for Studies in Gynecology and Reproduction (CEGYR) of Argentina, lead researcher, explained that this selection is based on molecular properties that have certain abnormal sperm and which is "Exposure of a molecule in the outer portion sperm.
This is called apoptotic sperm, those who "have DNA fragmentation levels high and have a poor prognosis for successfully fertilize an egg and create an embryo implantation potential," said the researcher.
"With a filter that recognizes this molecule, we can enrich the sperm sample, discarding outliers and using only normal to fertilize eggs," added the scientist.
Similar techniques have already been used in Germany for animal reproduction, but Argentine scientists developed a method to apply to human patients with fertility problems.
"We achieved first in the world to obtain pregnancies with this method and soon we will have births," said Rowe.
